MILLENNIUM PARK — After an intense day both emotionally and physically, the Bean of downtown Chicago is experiencing weakness and fatigue after receiving a second dose of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday.
“This is common for a lot of recipients of the Moderna vaccine,” said the Bean’s personal physician Alanis Orange, 98. “The first dose can be rough too, but shot number two? Forget about it! I’ve had over a thousand shots in my lifetime, most of them at Big Chicks after midnight if you know what I mean, so I know what I’m talking about. What the Bean is going through is absolutely normal.”

Working in a front-facing position that requires a lot of contact with the public, the Bean was relieved to secure its vaccine appointments last month. “A lot of people, when they see Cloud Gate their first instinct is to go up to it and look at it really close and put their hands on it,” said the Bean publicist Anish Kapoor, 66. “Even when quarantined, people haven’t been considering the Bean as someone who gets sick or requires care. Being very large and also made of metal has contributed to this misconception greatly.”
After receiving the second dose, the Bean initially felt chipper and alert. But after several hours, Orange noticed the Bean become more lethargic and slow to respond. “It’s strange to see the Bean not moving,” Orange stated. “So that was a big sign to me that the dose was kicking in. Also Bean’s been shivering a lot, which is hard to do with its weird musculature. The last time I saw it shiver was when I was tracing letters onto its back and trying to get them to guess what I was spelling. So maybe the vaccine is doing something similar to that.”
At press time, the Bean was seen lying down underneath a nice warm quilt with some tea and taking it easy.
