Heralding Autumn, Green Line Deepens to a Lovely Russet Orange

WOODLAWN — Heralding the changing seasons, Chicago’s Green Line trains are deepening from their usual vibrant green to a lovely russet orange color.

“Yep, it’s that time of year again,” said CTA conductor Ames DuBois, 43, gazing at the vibrant warm colors of the trains as they churned by above him. “Once the trains start looking like that, all I want to do is cozy up with some hot cider and watch scary movies. It’s fall, alright!”

The train color change has long been a significant generator of revenue for the city, with out-of-towners flocking in to admire the vivid hues of the train cars.

“We don’t end up keeping much of the tourism cash, though,” DuBois noted. “Most of that goes back into the cost of raking up all the trains when they fall off the tracks.”
