Socially Distant Joint Passed to Self

BUDLONG—With the shelter-in-place order still in effect for Illinois, marijuana smokers are having to blaze their own trails on this year’s April 20th “420” celebration.

In accordance with her usual 420 tradition, Megan Cheetum, 33, rolled a marijauna cigarette, or “joint,” to smoke prior to an annual viewing of the 2001 comedy Wet Hot American Summer. Upon lighting the joint, Cheetum remembered that she lived alone, and due to the social distancing measures, was not able to invite over her usual 420 companions. Cheetum, taking two quick inhales from the narcotic cigarette, instinctively passed the joint to the next person nearby, herself.

“I didn’t want to hog it, so I passed it...but I was the only person here, so I had to pass it to myself?” said Cheetum to a Chicago Genius Herald reporter, via phone. “I just took the joint from my right hand with my left hand and then said ‘Thank you, Megan.’ Then I guess I said ‘You are welcome, Megan. Then I smoked some more.”

Cheetum, who spent nearly an hour in her apartment’s bathroom after smoking the entire joint by herself—an amount of marijauna she’d typically share with four to five friends—announced plans to stare into her mirror and speak at full volume to her reflection before passing out on her couch while watching the Wet Hot American Summer DVD menu animation play on repeat.
